Food and beer are pretty good. Location is hard to beat being inside a church! Just be wary of when you go - I went on Friday around dinner and I could barely hear the people talking at my table. Even if you are not a beer drinker, they have corn hole out front and even had a live band, Back Track, the other night. Here's to hoping they bring back the 8 mile amber ale the next time I go!

First of all, this brewery has a pretty great location - inside a church! They have creatively used every part of the historic building to brew their delicious beers. Ask your waitress to specify which beers you can only get at this location. Beers start at $4, but a flight is the best way to try a few ounces of a new variety. While I'm not the most educated beer drinker, I can tell you the options here are fantastic. Almost every brewing style (IPA, Stout, Lager, etc) and Hop Level you can imagine

Are my taste buds still unsophisticated?? I thought the charcuterie plate tasted great. Washed it down with a dirty blonde. Then went inside and said a couple of prayers. That should do it for the next twenty years.

Very cool concept, mediocre execution. It was a Weekday afternoon and a lovely day but the bier garden tables were being stacked up and covered??? So we went inside. The beer was good as expected. The cucumber dill salad was crisp & cool.. lovely... the knockwurst plate was yummy...and the service is cold and lackluster. Beautiful building & worth stopping for a beer on your way elsewhere but the scene is a mix grayhairs in polo shirts and the overprivalaged hipter crowd...yawn. There is more fun than that to be had in Detroit.

Great beer, excellent service and a decent food menu. The beer selection is great - they maintain the staples and constantly layer in good seasonal options. The service is always very fast, the servers are always friendly and able to answer questions on the beer/food. The food menu isn't as strong as the beer menu, but it has a lot of good staples, although most of them a bit heavy. I've had most of the menu and the highlights are definitely the burgers (including the turkey burger), fish and chips, french fries and the best item on the menu by far is the hangar steak. They also do a great job properly cooking meat - if you ask for medium rare, it actually comes medium rare. Lastly, they make their own hot sauce and it's delicious and it's actually hot and you should ask them for it. Mug club - If you plan on coming a lot, this is a very good value. What it boils down to: if you're a member, whatever beer you order, they bring you a 20oz mug of that beer. So, high alcohol beers (9,10,11%) that are normally served in a tulip glass, you get 20oz for the same price. You do the math. They also give growler discounts, send out relevant email updates, give you a free mug and discounts on atwater merchandise. It's a good deal.

Built in an old church makes it a beautiful spot. The service was pretty slow, but we weren't in a rush. Don't order a flight of beers - takes too long. We had a few appetizer options, and all were pretty good. Octoberfest was setting up. Might try again with a bigger group

After seeing this place on tv I decided it might be worth a try. My wife, my daughter-in-law and myself went there today. I must say, the place itself is wonderful. It's a beautiful old church with plenty of seating. They've used the space well. Our service was stellar. Our server knew EVERYTHING about the food, the beers, the drinks and the building !!!! The food was...well, not amazing but it was definitely decent. I had the beer cheese soup which was quite good. That was followed with a bar burger. I was disappointed that I was not asked how I wanted it cooked. It came over-cooked by my standards. However, it was definitely not a hockey puck and was edible. I'm not the type to send it back unless it's not worth eating. The bun was a brioche and everything was fine and reasonable tasty. It was NOT one of the best in town, but it was comarably good with some of the better ones. The menu has some really neat items on it and I'd be willing to go back and give it another try. It's definitely a place worth checking out !!!

Excellent variety of craft beer and very good food at reasonable prices but service though very friendly is rather s-l-o-w. Even on a Sunday afternoon it took an inordinate amount of time to get our drink orders.

What a cool place! We absolutely LOVE Atwater in the park! Great place to go on Friday and Saturday nights in the summer! The patio with live entertainment is the best in Grosse Pointe. Can't find a better place around a Detroit! Their beers are great too but I can't say enough about the ambience!

The church is beautiful, and awesome to look at with the leaded glass. The outside patio area is nice with the cornhole game and lots of picnic table seating. We decided to sit outside since it was gorgeous weather and the waitress was very helpful at first - describing the beers and showing us first timers how to navigate through the menu. Because we frequent the Detroit location, we recognized some of the beers - just not the ones they brew specifically at this location. They do have a good selection, much more of a selection than the Atwater location in Detroit. However, this location charges for samples. Detroit location does not. There are $1 samples, $1.50 samples, and $2 samples, depending on the caliber of beer. The samples coincide with the $5 beer selections, $5.50 beer selections, and $6 beer selections. My partner and I ordered our beers and appetizers. The beers came quick, same with the appetizers. We ordered the fries, which were pretty good. They came with a spicy horseradish sauce that was just okay. We also ordered the pork belly corn dogs - which is a chunk of pork breaded and corn-dog-fried. They were just okay as well, we didn't like that we bit into them and they were mainly all fat. After our first beers, we noticed our waitress picking up several other tables. She frequented the other tables that were outside with us, and completely ignored us! We had to go inside and to the bar to order our next beers! We drank our second beers while watching her blatantly ignore us to check on her other tables. We couldn't believe she hadn't even come over to check on us! After drinking our second beers, we waited another 15-20 minutes and then had to ask another waitress to bring our check. The waitress must've gotten ahold of ours and she came over to bring us our check, stating that she had been very busy and that we should give her our credit card immediately so that she can ring us up before she gets busy again. Unbelievable. I've been to far more places with top notch quality beers that are able to deliver on service as well as beer. We drove 45 minutes to check this place out because we love Atwater beers, and will not visit again due to poor service.

Very cool concept of having a brewery in an old church. As far as ambience goes, this place does it right. I also like the outdoor seating but it was too hot the day we went so we sat inside. LOVE that they have so many beers on tap that you can't get anywhere else. I stuck to sampling a few, rather than choosing just one pint. We didn't eat dinner but we got pickles and pretzels- two of my favorites. I would recommend them.

Beautiful. Today they're doing a semi-grand opening. Right now it's Bier Garden only (no food and no inside seating yet) but they're open for After 6 on Kercheval. GP IPA Hop-a-Peel Cherry Wheat Dirty Blonde Cottonwood Gold Vanilla Porter ...and many more. We looked inside and it's beautiful! They'll have food and will be distilling whiskey and vodka soon. More reviews to come!

Atwater in the Park gets a 5 from me for ambiance, trivia night, and service. It gets a 3 for food. I don't care for beer so I can't really judge whether their brews are good. But, I absolutely would come back here for trivia night and just to hang out with friends. It's a beautiful church-turned-brew pub that serves German, burgers and bar food. As far as the food goes, pretty mediocre to me. I didn't care for the pork belly corn dog at all, even though it sounded good. Mine was not corny, not crisp, and the pork belly was mostly fat. It needed salt or jam or something to pop the flavor. I wouldn't order these again. I also ordered the weiner schintzel with spaetzle and latkes. I liked the latke the best. The spaetzle was ok but I far prefer Jacoby's. The schnitzel was also just ok, it was extremely dry both in the breading (which was a bit floury) and the meat. I've had far better schnitzel. So, next time I would probably try a burger. They had a couple that sounded really good. Go to Jacoby's if you want good German food and come here for ambience, service and trivia.

Biergarten with board games!!! I recommend the bible trivia. As with any bar with games, it's been "a hard road" for them. Pieces missing boards torn and sticky from drunkards that reverted to their toddler ways prior this day. Sid from toy story would be pleased. But the beer and food is amazing. There are very few better places to enjoy the company you are with on a perfect day.

So happy this corner has been rejuvenated! Many thanks to one family in particular who has good vision & is helping bring the life back into the area! They can be credited to many newer GPP start ups. This venue in particular, is very unique as it was previously a church. It has maintained a beautiful appeal & all of the management/owners are doing a nice job at keeping it flowing well. Keep up the good work!

We went there recently around 4 on a weekday for appetizers (pretzels) and a beer. We waited approx. 40 minutes for them to be served to us! They arrived with 3 small containers of dip. The Cheese fondue was watery and didn't taste good, it was rather nasty. The other cheese I think was Win sculers bar cheese, I can get that at the grocery store, besides, its not that good and an uninspiring choice. I think the third dip was honey I didn't try that one. The waitress didn't ask if we wanted another beer till well after she served the pretzels and we were pretty much done with them. I should point out that the bar wasn't busy WHATSOEVER. So we had slow and terrible service, mediocre appetizers. The beer was the only decent thing Ps. I realize this isn't written very well, I can't be arsed to fix it right now We probably won't even bother going again for the dinner since everything was sub-par.

I went here with a group of about 10 girls a week ago. We sat outside and they lit the heat lamps for us. It was a great place for a loud group, because we are loud to begin with, but especially loud when you mix in the alcohol. The bartender was extremely friendly, good looking and entertained the girls in our group. My friends ordered several tasting sizes of beers which they all enjoyed. The food I ordered was a smokehouse burger that came with bbq pulled pork atop it with cheese and I got a side of sweet and sour cabbage. The burger came with potato chips and I ordered it sans bun. It was excellent. The cabbage was so-so. I'd love to go back on an evening when I could drink and try some of their German fare. I'd absolutely recommend this place this place for a night of drinking, patio going and groups!

Stopped in here recently to kill some time between a wedding and its reception. Just straight up love the look and feel of the place. Turning an old church into a brewery is a fantastic move, as is putting the stills up on the "altar." Ordered some food and it was wayyy better than it had to be when you're serving beer out of a converted church. Wife got the roasted veggie salad and we shared the sausage pierogi and the pretzels. All tasty. Beer itself however, I'm picky. Atwater has never been on top of my go to list for Michigan made suds, and that most likely will never change given the amazing offerings we're inundated with. It was good, not great. Overall, 3.5 if I could.

They've knocked it out of the park in the beautiful old church. From the moment you walk in and see the pews and inhale the church smells of incense and old wood you are immediately brought back to your Catholic school years. I'm not really a beer drinker *cringe* I know it's a brewery. So I tried their house made red wine not expecting much, and it was delicious!!!! My girlfriend had a couple flights of beers and she loves the flavors and options to choose from. After a couple rounds, we got the fried pickles. Yum!!! They were salty and scrumptious. I will definitely be going back there in the very near future. I'm sure my husband would love all the German food, and I could sure use a few more glasses of that wine ;)

I love the atmosphere, but am not a fan of the food...with one big exception. I am obsessed with the pretzels. Obsessed. They have a great selection of beer and (new) cocktails that are really, really good. Great, unique spot that is fun to stop in and enjoy especially when the weather is nice and you can sit outside.

Wow! Walking in and seeing the jaw-dropping dining room/bar area, you know you are in for a treat! Service was very friendly and knew her beer. She didn't just give the usual "It's an IPA." she actually knew beer, which is always a plus in our book! Beer menu is very nice. Something for everyone, with glass sizes to please everyone. Tasters, pints, and growlers. Hubs had the Hop a peel IPA and enjoyed it. I had tasters of the cider and summer ale, both very enjoyable. We ended up taking home a growler of the oatmeal stout, and that had to be my fav of all the beers I tried. Nice rich tasting stout! A few of the beers are brewed at this locations, others at the Detroit location. For dinner I had the wiener schnitzel and it was GREAT! Just a little lemon caper sauce on top, nice crisp and light breading. As my sides I chose the herb new potatoes and marinated tomato salad. Potatoes were...potatoes, but the marinated tomato salad was VERY yummy!! Fresh, chilled tomatoes and onions marinated in a vinaigrette. It was a great palate cleaner during the meal. I honestly could have made a meal of just tomatoes. Hubs decided to get a pizza with ham and pineapple. The ham was smoked and had a nice smoke taste without being too over-powering. The crust was very nice. We will be back for sure!!! I cannot wait!

It's great that they converted an old church into a bar -- I would've preferred another sex dungeon in the Park, especially since the high ceilings would permit a 13-foot tall swing, but I'll take what I can get. Of course, their beer menu is vast and wonderful, and pleased our group of savage drunkards. I'm not too sure on their beer cocktails, though. Is this done just in case someone from Macomb Township rolls down here in his Kid Rock t-shirt and wants to drink an upscale version of Bud Light Lime? I'm lost. Anyhow. The charcuterie plate was disappointing. The cheeses were equally unimpressive, succeeding in being bland. Still, a step up from the Hormel-quality charcuterie plate served up at the Dakota Inn. The pickle spears were phallic, fried, and delicious. I devoured three of them, and would've consumed more, but I had to save room for my tortured baby cow -- served breaded, fried and packed with guilt. It was excellent, to say the least, and served with a side of asparagus and condescension from our friendly waitress, just the way I like it. My biggest complaint of the night should've been about one of our group's inane dinner conversations: The search for the best prepared Brusselssprouts in the city. (#NewDetroit). But instead my anger for the evening was directed toward the band. It's tough to talk about all the "wonderful" gentrification and "farm fresh" options going on in Detroit when dad rock is blaring in the background. "You're buying a townhouse in Detroit?" I shouted as the band played its 8th Coldplay cover in a row. "No. Townhouse. Like ... the restaurant in Birmingham ... is opening in Detroit." "That's awful news,"I said with a scowl before taking a disgusted bite of my serviceable apple strudel.

Really interesting atmosphere. German type brew house hosted in a converted church. Really enjoyed that, however the tables at times can be close together. Beers are well priced, with a pint never costing more that like 6 bucks. Awesome list of beers brewed in house. Had 4 different ones and they were all good and unique. Food was good. I got the German Burger. Tasted incredible. There is also a long list of authentic German food on the menu that sounded good to. Will definitely be going back for other brews and different entrees.

I went here for the first time last weekend for a wedding rehearsal dinner. We had a small room off the main dining area towards the back. The bridal party had decorated the room and it looked great. I think they had to supply everything including table linens, but they did a great job. We started with beers, of course. I had the Whango and a pineapple IPA. The Pineapple IPA was pretty good. The Whango seemed really weird to me, it smelled and tasted like bubble gum. Then we had some appetizers to share - the pretzels, which were amazing, and the fried pickles, which were okay. The dipping sauces for the pretzels were really good! For our entrees we had a choice of hangar steak, burger, fish and chips, and chicken chopped salad. I had the hangar steak, and my boyfriend got the fish and chips. The steak was pretty good, they all were cooked to the same temp due to the large party. There were 2 pieces, and one was more well done and one was a little less done. I prefer my steak rare to medium rare, so it was more cooked than I prefer, but the flavor was good. The truffle frites were amazing! The entrees all came with a choice of salad or soup, so of course I got the beer cheese soup, which was delicious. Then we had an option for dessert, an apple turnover or German chocolate cake. We ordered 1 of both to share, but they were just ok. Nothing special, pretty much tasted like anything I could buy at a grocery store. The room was great, and the service was really awesome for being such a big party. The hosts realized towards the end of dinner that they didn't spend enough to meet the minimum, so they ended up having to buy everyone in the wedding party an Atwater pint glass. I would definitely go back next time I'm in town! The atmosphere in the tap house is very cool, very similar to Brewery Vivant in Grand Rapids.

According to MLive.com , Atwater Brewery's Atwater in the Park has been named one of the top 10 best new beer halls in America by Trip Advisor's Jetsetter.com .! I ordered the Combination Platter with sausage, German potatoes, and saurkraut. I also ordered a side of sweet-n-sour cabbage and spatzle. The combination platter had knackwurst and bratwurst and was quite enjoyable. The sweet-n-sour cabbage was mostly unremarkable, but then I like more of a heavy flavor than others, perhaps. They also have TVs throughout, offering sports when available. All in all, a great visit!

Nice for a beer and a quick bite if you are really hungry. Had a reunion event in the back room. Staff was nice and polite. Beer was fine. Food was disappointing even though I like German food. Just drink the beer.

I've been here a few times and I love it. Great beer and atmosphere. They set this place up well and the choice of beers from both Atwater locations is a plus. The patio area is also a nice place to hang out when the weather is nice.

We went to Atwater in the Park on a Friday and had a great time. We only had to wait about 5 mins to get seated which was nice. The decked out church architecture was well-done and the biergarten idea was smart as well. The only complaint I had is that the tables are very close together and it's very loud inside. The beer and food was great. We liked being able to order small samples in order to try all the different kinds of beer. We had the beer cheese soup and porkbelly corn dogs as apps. The beer cheese soup rivaled One Eyed Betty's, and that is hard to do! The corn dogs were a great choice as well. For dinner we tried the burger with sausage on it and the other burger with bbq. (forget the exact names and I don't feel like googling it:) The sausage burger was just soso, but the bbq burg was compelling:)

Usually we have had decent experiences here. Food has always been underwhelming, but people mainly go for the ambience and beer. Tonight's experience was awful.... So much I never want to eat there again. The kids food was ordered and then input incorrectly by the server ... mistakes happen. However the kids correct food took a half hour to come out after the adults food and it was too hot to eat for at least 20 minutes. It had to be taken to go and no one seemed to think it was an issue or were apologetic on their end. On top of that I got the whitefish special and it was inedible. It was so dry and fishy. I've had a lot of whitefish and it's never tasted like that before. The worst part about it is they were unapologetic about it all... And took at least 20-25 minutes to bring the bill ...at least we got the fish comped because I only took one small bite. No one said anything about the kids food which we were charged for. At that point we just wanted to leave. I may go back for a beer someday but I will never go back to eat. My husband always gets a burger and that seems consistent so if you go... order that....

Went with few friends and didn't like the place unanimously. Food taste worst than mcdonald, chicken had no flavor. Deep fried food and horrible taste. Bad service doesn't seem like waiters fault it is from the kitchen. Not enough people to handle the job. Food flies bugs inside and outside seating area. Floors very dirty. Beer served in small size at premium price we felt cheated. Will not recommend to any one. There are many good choices in the same area.

The service was super slow. We sat there for almost 2.5 hours. The tables weren't full and there was no wait. There were at least 4 flies inside. The food was super greasy.

This place is pretty cool. You basically drive out of the ghetto and into this little town haha... The menu is rather small but has enough to feed the hungry. There's a lot of German food (brats and shnitzels), but stuff for people who aren't big German food lovers -- like me. I had the burger with blue cheese and it was GREAT. Huge ground chuck patty, juicy, tender, cooked perfectly and just all around tasty. It comes with kettle chips that are also quite good. The girlfriend got a veggie salad, which she thought was OK but tasted a little "too different" for her tastes. We also shared the pretzel appetizer, and the pretzels were on the harder side and not too soft. Maybe they are supposed to be like that? The dipping sauce was good at least... The beers, though ... YES. There are plenty and they are delicious and usually priced ($6 or $7 for most). There's a kind of beer for everyone, like the Dirty Blonde or Hop-A-Peel for the citrus lovers or the darker IPA's for the hoppy-loving fanatics. The beer is here -- and it's good!! After we ate outside we checked out the inside ...pretty cool. It must have been an old church because the stained glass is there with a big Jesus rendition -- all next to a nicely constructed bar and a group of tables in a largely wooden decor. Interesting for sure. This is a nice outdoor place, especially when it's warmer out (but watch out for the bees!) I enjoyed it and think any town needs more places like this for entertainment and eating. It's a nice spot in this community.

I was going to give it 2-stars, but I will explain more later. To preface, I am a full-blooded German, I have been to the Hofbräuhaus in Munich, Chicago, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh as well as being a regular at the Dakota Inn in Detroit. In my opinion, if you are going to open a German biergarten, open a German biergarten. Do or do not, there is no try. Atwater, while I commend you for trying, you missed the mark. Now let's get to the details. The Building? What's not to say. It's an amazing old church. By far, this is the best selling feature. It is literally perfect in every way. The biergarten entrance was inviting and they had authentic tables from the Munich Oktoberfest. The service? One of the reasons you got three-stars was because Taylor was an awesome bartender. She knew her beers, she knew before we needed one, she asked how things were and if they weren't perfect, she fixed it. One of the best bartenders I have encountered in town, bar none. The beer? Again, it's great. They have 12 on tap (I believe) and even have lagers and bocks for those of use who aren't huge IPA fans. I tried 4 of them and they were all better than great. The pork belly corn dog? It sounded amazing. It was good, but it isn't something I would ever order again. The sausage? Not sure who their supplier is, but their knockwurst and kielbasa were perfect, their bratwurst was dry and one of the worst brats I ever had. The wienerschnitzel? Again, over-cooked, dry, no sauce. The kraut? It wasn't kraut, it was polish kapusta. I didn't mind it, but saurkraut it was not. The potato salad? This was an embarrassment. It was potatoes cut in half. It resembled nothing like a German potato salad and should be replaced immediately. The spätzle? Not bad, but it was literally burnt in some places. Not sure how you burn spätzle, but they did. Again, it's as if they didn't approach the German-community at all and simply looked up recipes on the Internet. Will I go back? For drinks and the atmosphere, absolutely. For dinner? Yea, not happening.

This place is pretty cool looking - it was converted into a beer-hall from an old, stain-glass windowed church; and you can definitely tell! The entrance doors are the big wooden doors you'd expect to find on a cathedral in Europe = very cool! They brew their own beer onsite, as well as get TONS shipped in from all over, and have a pretty darn good selection. The prices are just a little expensive, and the food menu is so-so. I'd come back to have a few drinks with friends, but might go elsewhere for dinner. If you've never been here, it's definitely worth a look just to see the old school church design.

Atwater in the Park is well on its way to competing with the other greats in the state and a welcome addition to the metro area. The renovated church is a great setting, they have numerous beers to choose from, and their menu has a lot of affordable food options. We had already eaten dinner but opted for a pretzel basket. At $4, we assumed it was some hard pretzels out of a bag with some mustard. Wrong! It was an assortment of warm soft pretzels with two dipping sauces. Yum! My husband and I each got two samplers because we couldn't decide on just one beer. I'm usually an IPA gal all the way, but my fave was their cream ale. It was so different from my usual. I don't mind communal seating but it would be nice to have a hostess to keep everything organized.

The fist time I came here was a Saturday night. It was more towards the later end of the night so it was not very crowded. The bartender was great! He was very personable and knowledgeable. I ordered the mulled wine. I have no complaints about their drink selection because it all tastes good. The second time I came here was on a Friday night around 8PM for a late dinner/birthday celebration. It was overly crowded so we ended up going somewhere else down the street. The last time I came to Atwater was during the week around noon, for lunch. At first it was not too busy. We ordered lunch and drinks. I of course ordered the mulled wine again. I just can't get enough. I also ordered the eggplant schnitzel, which came with two sides (potatoes, cucumber dill salad). It was all very good, except I thought the cucumber dill salad was a bit too watery....still good none the less. The one major complaint I do have is the quality of waitstaff. During the beginning of our visit our waitress was very attentive. After our food came out though, we never saw her again for at least an hour when she finally brought the bill. Two other people ( I think it was the manger and another waitress) had to bring us a second round of drinks. Did I mention our waitress did not once check up on us? This means I never had a re-fill on my water..big pet peeve of mine. The restaurant had somewhat filled while we were there but I find it hard to believe the server was too busy to check up on our table. Service like this reflects poorly on the establishment and the servers tip. Next time if I do eat here I will only be sitting at the bar.

I LOVE what they did with the old church. I love that they put the cork on the ceiling to dampen the noise. I am sure it would be painfully loud without. The food we had was good and the beer awesome.

You can't go wrong at this place. Their rotation selection of beers is spectacular, and the prices are decent for what you're getting. Every time I've gone, I've ordered a sandwich or a burger, and have yet to be disappointed. The outdoor seating area is where it's at, but I've also sat inside at the bar when it's too crowded outside and still thoroughly enjoyed myself. The service has always been very friendly and efficient.

My friend and I decided to try this place out on Friday afternoon. It looked pretty cool with outdoor seating and indoor seating inside the old church. We opted for the outdoor seating. There were only a few other people there so I was surprised by how slow the service was. After several minutes, a server took our drink order. I ordered a dirty blonde which was good and my friend order 4 samples, which she liked. My friend asked the server if the pork belly corn dogs were particularly fatty and she assured her they were not and were a very popular menu item. She ordered that and I ordered a burger and asked it to be cooked medium. The pork belly corn dog was all fat and little to no meat. I cut my burger in half and picked it up. The bottom bun was completely dissolved from the blood pouring from the raw burger and there was a pencil sized vein sticking out of it. We sent both items back and the server offered me a salad on the house but nothing for my friend. While we waited, we were attacked by a wasp so decided to go sit inside. The church part is pretty cool but not cool enough that I would ever come back. Even though she offered me a salad, there was never an apology and I kind of felt like a manager should have stopped at our table. We had high hopes for this place but it was a giant disappointment.

We came on a Sunday afternoon with some friends and it was surprisingly empty. It's quite the venue - a juxtaposition of realities - this is a brewery housed in a former church. You eat and drink in the sanctuary and there is a nice patio outside for more lounging. The service was a bit slow - we waited almost half an hour for our food. The drinks came quickly and I shared a pint of the Apple Crisp which was delightfully crisp and tasty. A few friends ordered pirogies to start and loved them. The table mostly ordered the burger which came with a heaping amount of homemade chips, the beer brewed brat served on a pretzel bun with fries on the side, and my boyfriend got the trout schnitzel with a potato latke and some pasta dish that I can't remember the name of! The food was great - just the right amount so you're not hungry for more and you're not overstuffed. The waitress was kind enough to split our bill for us in threes. Overall, pretty cool and interesting place to eat and drink!

Great ambiance. Wonderful patio with heaters. Food OK. Don't get the applesauce. It tastes like vinegar. Schnitzel pretty good. Cheddar beer soup is also pretty good. Spaetzel is good.

Awesome place!!! Got there early and still had to wait for a seat but not too long. Good service at the bar, food came out quick and beers were never empty long. Ordered the pretzel basket and beer cheese soup and both were amazing. Shoulda stopped there but couldn't resist some brats and knockwurst, yum! The ambiance is very cool. Love the old church and traditional German Biergarten layout. Left fat and happy!

I didn't expect anything less than satisfaction when visiting the highly anticipated Atwater in the Park. Atwater teaming up with Epicurean Group is brilliant. You have a restaurant group who has proven excellence through many of their restaurants (Coach Insignia in the Detroit Renaissance Center, Plaza Deli in Southfield and Northern Lakes Seafood in Troy to name a few) and a brewing company that has perfected the art of beer making. To merge the two together, renovate a church, go with a community Bier Garten theme and serve German fare is a masterpiece in the making. Bottomline: We loved our experience at Atwater in the Park and cannot wait to spend hours there sipping delicious beer, enjoying tasty food and being surrounded by good company. Atwater in the Park's menu is very well priced. We ate a lot. When I say a lot, I mean we tried a little of everything including a large sampling of their beer and our bill was extremely reasonable. We started with the Basket of Pretzels served with honey mustard and cheese & lager fondue ($5) and two Wurst plates; one Bratwurst and one Smoked Knockwurst at $3 per piece. Both were delicious. I personally could not stop eating the soft, salty pretzels soaked in the cheese & lager fondue. For dinner I got the Chopped House Salad ($8) and my company got the Turkey Burger ($10) and Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich ($10). We got three sides to share at $3 each; Spatzle, Potato Latke and German Potato Salad. The. BEER. You can get a pint for around $6 average or a sampler with four beers around $1.50-$2.50 a beer. They serve the sampler on a labeled placemat. There are 40 draft handles at the main bar and 10 at the outdoor bar providing restaurant goers with lots of craft beer options. They did not slack when designing Atwater in the Park. The interior is wide open and their brewing equipment is the centerpiece of the room highlighting the large bar area. We chose to sit outside and loved the Bier Garten experience. It provides such a true community, family feel. There were numerous people with strollers pulled beside the table, dogs on leashes sleeping under their owner's feet and people of all ages walking, biking and driving up ready to indulge. The outdoor patio also has a small bar, large umbrellas providing shade to the communal tables and a cornhole bag set on the sidewalk for those craving a little competition. Suggestion: Red Crown Quality Eats is right down the street and serves the most amazing desserts. We dropped in there for another drink (they have a great drink menu) and ordered the triple chocolate layered mousse bumpy cake and it was honestly to die for. They served it with four small beaters covered with the homemade mousse. All desserts are made in house and looking over the menu formed some interest in wanting to eat there. The outdoor patio and interior are both adorable as well. This is a much different type of restaurant than Atwater in the Park, but I am looking forward to checking out the full experience soon.

I now it's a brewery but I wish they had more selection of ciders. The food isn't bad, the fish and chips were kindle bland and the red cabbage cole slaw was the worst stuff ever. The bartender was super nice and was willing to let us sample before purchasing and we did ask for quite a few of them. Snobbish I know. Their pirogies were great however and definitely recommended

Had a wonderful experience here. I can't speak for how authentic of a Biergarten this is, but I don't care... Comparing what's authentic and what's not is futile and of little value. The food was fantastic and Atwater's beers never disappoint. Isn't that what counts? My wife got the pork schnitzel with the tomato salad and new potatoes, all of which were delicious. I had the pizza with ham and pineapple. I really enjoyed the ham that was used; it was smoked and cubed, which was surprising as every other pizza that I've had with ham used thinly sliced lunch meat. The dough was light, airy and crisp. I'm not going to tell you that this was the best pizza ever, but it was very good. I also enjoy going out and ordering pizza with beer, so I was in a happy place. I was a bit worried since 1) this location opened recently and 2) there is no hostess. My last experience at a place that didn't have a hostess was less than enjoyable, but it wasn't packed when we got there, so it wasn't an issue. I can, however, see how this could make your evening less enjoyable. Our server was extremely nice and knew the beer and food menu front to back. Very helpful and attentive. I think Atwater's beers fly under the radar a bit, but they're not deserving of such low praise. I've found that they've hit the mark on each style, and I was glad to enjoy their beer fresh from (near) the source. Their main stay brews were on tap (Dirty Blonde, Voodoo Vader, Hop A Peel etc...) as well as some brews that are made on premises, and as far as I know, not available at the Detroit brewery. There on site brews were an oatmeal stout, brown ale, smoke porter and golden ale. In total, there were 22 beers on. My wife an I had the Hop A Peel, cider, summer ale, oatmeal stout and double bock (not the Voodoo Vader). I ended up walking out with a new growler filled with oatmeal stout. I can't wait to go back and get the schnitzel next time and sample more of their one off brews. This is a great location, which is a little more convenient than their Detroit brewery and I hope to make many return trips.

Very great service. The appetizers and entrees arrived pretty quickly. Food was delicious. The chocolate beer was also tasty. I look forward to going when it gets warmer outside. They have open seating outside. Cool place.

Meh. Had high expectations but after 2 tries thats enough. German food is truly lousy- especially the dismal sausages and "German Pizza". Potato pancakes cold, greasy & undercooked. Beer pretty good - especially the "smoked porter" but not worth the trip. Atmosphere cool & festive which is why 2 stars instead of 1. Come on GPP- if you want to be the next Royal Oak you HAVE to fix this lousy menu.

First time here, they just opened a couple of days ago. The atmosphere is awesome inside a renovated chapel. The outdoor area is comfortable and week served including an outdoor tap room, etcha-scetch for the kids. The inside is spacious and filled with a wonderful atmosphere. A fireplace, stained glass windows, a view of the brewing and a friendly and knowledgable staff. Visit, love it, and bring your friends!

Food: The food was surprisingly good and there was a good selection on the menu, including German fare. The beer selection was also good. Previously, I had numerous poor experiences with Atwater beer, including bottled beer and at beer festivals. However, Atwater has made improvements. The Decadent Dark Chocolate Ale was very good, while the Quaker Oatmeal Stout was disappointing. The Pumpkin Spice Latte was very good. Rating: 4 stars Service: The service was excellent and the server had excellent attention to detail. Rating: 5 stars Atmosphere: The setting is wonderful, especially with the stained glass windows and cathedral ceiling. Yes, this is the home of a former church. The bar and restaurant area were lively and there were many patrons. This is a fun place and the atmosphere is great. It has the feeling of a special place. Rating: 5 stars Location: The exterior and grounds were nice, though the rear of the restaurant had some dumpsters and trash that could have been managed better. Normally, this aspect is not visible, but it was unavoidable due to the parking location. Parking is limited, but it is understandable due to the city location. Rating: 3 stars

Was totally blown away by Atwater in the Park. A bar. In a former church? With stained glass intact and brewing gear instead of an altar? Why is this just now arriving in GPP? Lived across Mack for 15 years. Might move back to join this Atwater congregation. Eric was a great bartender and helped a couple of Thanksgiving football watchers steer through the right samples. Thanks!

We came here for my sisters 30th birthday family celebration and had a wonderful time! We were seated in the back room by the fireplace. We grabbed some games to play (nice touch) and ordered some flights to start. All the beers were delicious! My favorite is the Hawaii49. The coconut was quite tasty too! The food was hot and yummy. We tried so many different items. The staff was friendly and welcoming! We will be back!

What a great atmosphere for a brewery cafe. A converted traditional church transformed into a beer garden. Food was great. Authentic German sausages as fresh and tasty as you can imagine. Home made pretzels and beer cheese soup too. We tried 4 Oz samplers of many of the beers. Loved the cherry wheat, chocolate porter and blueberry blonde beers. Will definitely return next time we're in Detroit.

Wow we really liked this place. I am so sad that we don't have an interesting brewery in our neighborhood. Really liked the atmosphere outside and the beer selection was really good. We had the pretzel appetizer and that was very substantial for 5$. We will def go back when we are on that side of town.

Under full disclosure, I live 3 blocks away, so I may be biased. :). I even have a designated bar bike. The owners/management team have developed a real winner. The building and garden ambiance are spectacular. On clear nights, the bier garten has been jammed every night since opening as the weather has been pretty exceptional. I went on a Friday in mid-July around 8:00 PM and we found seats immediately. Server took a few minutes to get to us, but brew and food arrived with no issues. Only getting the check was slow. I had a Detroit Pale Ale that had more body and aroma than anything I've tried in Ann Arbor. Also, my fish and chips were excellent and hot. My friend enjoyed his burger as well. Reasonable prices and big portions. We chatted with a friendly couple from Livonia celebrating 46 years of marriage the whole week with mini Detroit tours. I was surprised to see the crowd was mostly late 35-55, rather than younger. The younger set must come by later in the evening. You can be assured I will return soon.

I went to Atwater in the park for the first time last night. I had to wait a while for a seat but that was to be expected with the size of the party I was with along with the location in a 're-emerging neighborhood. The beer was fantastic Atwater brews. I had the Cherry Wheat, Cherry Stout and the Cottonwood. They were refreshing and paired well with the food that I got. I ordered the German Platter which came with Bratwurst, knockwurst and Kielbasa paired with Sauerkraut and German potato Salad. The Brat was too fine of a grind for me personally but that was the only "bad" thing that I got. All in all, I would recommend this place to the casual beer drinker. The old church atmosphere along with the layout of a traditional German Bier Garten is appealing. I'll definitely be going back.

The beers are great. Service is pretty good. Last time I was here for dinner, I tried ordering a pizza because it's on the menu. The waiter told me pizzas are only on Mondays, so I ordered a burger. 10 minutes later, I watched the same waiter bring a pizza to a different table. Ummmm? He also took four full minutes to read my license. I pointed to the date but he still claimed it was hard to read. He was younger than I am.

Atmosphere, service, and beers are a solid five. The food is not quite there yet. Everything sounds great on paper, but many items fall short at the table. My advice to them would be to pare down the menu to the items that are getting rave reviews, focus on getting traditional German fare right, and always, ALWAYS serve the food hot. The beer cheese soup is rich and tasty, but it wants a soup spoon. If they work out the kinks, this place will be great. In the meantime, just plan to meet your friends for beer(s).

Its not that good. Bad music. Pretty lame. Mediocre at best. The pretzel platter had weird balls which seemed fried. I dont know how they were prepared, but they became rock hard after they cooled down. The dipping sauces were bad. The "lager fondue" was watery, and the Honey mustard was so so. The WiFi worked flawlessly though. The Detroit location is my favorite bar in the world, but this one is not at the same level. Unfortunately, I wasn't surprised.

I've been twice, once for beer & appetizers, the 2nd time with a group of 20 for dinner & beer. The good - great location for me - I'm so excited to have a bier garten in walking distance of my house. The outdoor seating is really pleasant, and unlike a lot of bars/restaurants where you're seated outside but facing a busy street of traffic, this is more laid back and the surrounding area is pleasant to look at. The inside is great, being a converted church, it has a unique charm. Plenty of interesting beers to choose from and the prices are reasonable, $4-5 a brew. You can also get a 1/2 pint. They have a bar outside & inside where you can get a beer from the bartender if you don't want to wait for a waitress to serve you at a table. The Bad. Service was not so great when seated, I know we had a large crowd, but our waitress was really struggling. She couldn't answer any questions about beer types or what the food was like so that was pretty frustrating. It was incredibly slow, our table was getting upset at the slow service. When our food did arrive there were a few mistakes in the orders. The Food. The food was hit & miss. The German platter was good as was the beer brat plate. The chicken wurst was good and so was the sauerkraut. The pretzel appetizers were good. Misses were the german potato salad - cold and no flavor, the spatzle was burned and the turkey cherry sausage was dry. All in all, I'm a fan, I'll be back just because I like the location and environment. One final thing for management - provide a few wine options please. We had 2 non-beer drinkers in our crowd and they would really have enjoyed a glass of wine with their dinner. I know you're thinking why come to a beir garten if you're not going to drink beer, but if a large group decides to go, there's always the potential someone won't drink beer, so why not provide that option so they're not left out.

I stopped in to see what this place is all about (I love Atwater downtown). We sat on the patio, but took a quick look inside. It was beautiful. I hope to go back soon and sit at the large horseshoe bar and have dinner; the menu sounded quite appetizing. The beer selection was very extensive and impressive, as well as all of the liquors and wines. I tried out the GP IPA (awesome) and the hop-a-peel (not a big fan). We also the mojito, which was delicious. I would highly recommend Atwater in the Park.

First, the building is very cool! We went on a Sunday afternoon, so not many people. The waitress was very knowledgeable and pleasant. She directed my date to the sampler beer option, which came in cute little steins and were labeled so he knew which was which. The food? Meh. We shared the German sampler platter, and I was underwhelmed. The kraut seemed to forget that "sauer" is part of the flavor. The cucumber dill salad needed much less onion and a splash more vinegar. The grilled sausages were, well, grilled sausage. Hard to mess up. The pretzel basket was good. I thought that $9 for House Riesling was a bit steep-at least give a decent sized glassful at that price! I liked the atmosphere a lot, but at $50+ for lunch? I'll probably suggest somewhere else.

Good crowd for a Monday evening, $1 slider night. Found a table inside without a problem and was excited to finally sample the German food I've been reading about for 6 months. Our waitress was prompt and friendly, no problems with the service. I ordered a German Pizza with a side of Potato Salad and a barrel aged smoked Porter beer. All three were a disappointment! The pizza crust was burnt on the edges, the sour kraut is not good and had only a few slices of bratwurst on top. German potato salad lacked flavor and bacon. Just a bunch of multicolored potatoes with some vinegar based dressing. I did not finish my beer because it was too smokey. Should have traded it for another. My wife ordered the bratwurst and weisswurst and both came with some kind of rye mustard. I tasted rye seeds in the wurst and mustard and both were quite dry. Atmosphere is nice, except for the flies and gnats buzzing around me. I'll try it again, but won't be ordering any German food and maybe a lighter beer. Long way to go on the German food.

What a gem. Atwater In The Park puts itself out there as a bier garden and it delivers. Went there for the first time this evening, it was a little cool outside so we opted for the dining room. The tables are very lose to each other promoting meeting and talking with the people next to you. A group of fellas sat next to my wife and me and we all had a ball. We all had a great time talking and joking. There is a great sense of community that a bier garden stands for. Our server Lauren was great. She has a great knowledge of the beers and menus and makes great suggestions. Monday night is slider night. Sliders are $1 each. So my wife and I split the German platter and had a couple sliders each. The food was great. The German platter has three sausages, fresh kielbasa, knock wurst, and brat wurst that were grilled. My favorite is the fresh kielbasa. This meat fest came with sauerkraut and German style potato salad. It was great. The sliders were simple and tasty. My wife had a beer sampler and I had the Sherthing and a wheat beer. The beers are great. We will definitely be returning.

I really wanted to give this place 4 stars. The space was beautiful, as many others have mentioned. The service was good. Of course, the beer was excellent. The food was, eh. I got the Trout Schnitzel. It was delicious. I would order it again. Although, I don't usually do fried stuff, it was worth the calories. I also had a house salad and my bf had the cheese soup. Neither were that great. My bf also ordered the Weiner schnitzel. It sucked. He ended up eating some of my trout. We will definitely give it another shot. There is great potential!

I'm seriously obsessed with this place! The food is awesome, and the beer is some of the best you can get! The atmosphere is top notch, we somehow always end up having awesome convos here. It's just got a really great vibe. Highly recommend the Dirty Blonde (one of my faves), Vanilla Java Porter, as well as the Voodoo Vator. The pretzel appetizer is to die for, and the burgers are amazing! My only gripe is that the last time we came, one of the toilets looked like it had been thrown up in (and not since cleaned), and a woman was changing her babies on the bathroom sink. When I went in to use the bathroom before we left, there was poop all over the counter. I'd hope that employees would keep a better eye on the bathrooms, especially during a Saturday night. Other than that, Atwater in the Park is one of my favorite places to be.

We waited months in anticipation for this place to open- new GP Park residents excited for the new offerings on Kerch. Anyway, we went the first week it opened and as a lot of reviews expressed the food was very average and service was worse. Completely get it- openings are tough and they were slammed. Fast forward to 2nd and 3rd visits- still hoping for the best not much changed. Really don't get the half hearted German menu and the regular bar food was average at best. Suggestions - Have really good bar food (easy enough) wings, wraps, pizza, fries, quality burgers etc -Have staff ready and trained to handle large groups (I'm sure this is improving) -Might go against the concept but would be cool to have more TV's, maybe some outside for College Football this fall since there isn't a decent sports bar in the park Going to keep giving this a chance since it has so much potential looking forward to you guys ironing things out

Came here with my mom and we both had the Trout Schnitzel with Spaetzle and German potato salad. The food was legit (we are German) and tasty. They have A LOT of beers on tap and you can order tiny ones to taste. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because they do not have a hostess and it's first come first serve. Hard to find a seat...luckily we did right away. The building is a really cool old church and it looks like a great place to get drinks outside in the summer.

Finally a real european style biergarten with wonderful staff. Kitchen has some kinks to work out with serving times and overall freshness of certain items (brez'n at night great, brez'n during the day seemed not). Hopefully place will survive. Beer and ambience and food were good.

Great and beautiful setting within an old church. We went on a Thursday night and they had live music. The beer is always awesome! I like dirty blonde. Service was quick and they had $a special of 2 off on Thursdays! We had a pretzel platter with spicey Dijon mustard that was really good.

Food: I was overall disappointed in the food. The pretzels in the appetizer were very good, but the entrees weren't as good. The schnitzel wasn't pounded enough, and there was some flavor in the coating that was far from authentic. The potato pancake was not cooked well enough, and they put a dollop of sour cream on it, whether you asked for it or not. The spatzle was grilled and had a nice texture, but the "Maurice salad" did not live up to its name (if you're not going to do it right, pick a different name!). The sausages were good however. Atmosphere: Very nice, in the renovated church. Beer: Hit and miss. The Dunkel Weissen was one of the better renditions I've had in America (although the aftertaste was lacking). The Kolsch was simple and clean, but lacked the floral aftertaste, as well as being too lightly hopped. The Oatmeal Stout was more bitter than you'd expect, but the Tripel was very nice. Of course, you can always go with the Vanilla Porter, which is always a hit. Location: Be warned: if you follow google's directions and come off of I-94 down Altar, you're going to drive through a very rough neighborhood, and I do not recommend doing so after dark. Better off to go further east and come in through Grosse Pointe to avoid trouble. Food: 2 stars. Beer: 3 stars. Atmosphere: 5 stars. Overall 3 stars.

We had a baby shower in the private room on Saturday afternoon and it was great. The fireplace made it cozy and the room was perfect for this gathering. Our menu included the pretzel baskets, beer cheese soup, roasted vegetable salad, chicken schnitzel sliders, kielbasa, brats and sweet and sour cabbage. The food was great and very different for this type of event. I would highly recommend this venue for an event. Nick was great to work with and the wait staff was exceptional.

I figured I'd try the new Atwater spot. Super cool what they did to resurrect this church. I've heard amazing things about the food, and anyone that has had Atwater's beer already knows the deal; it's the best In Detroit hands down, in my opinion. However, I dropped by to fill my growlers on the way to a party. I always love sharing Atwater's beer at parties with people that are stuck on bud light. All I can say is do yourself a favor and make the trip down to the Tap Room on the lower Eastside just north of downtown. I was floored at the price at this location. If you on the Eastside or any of the Eastside suburbs and don't live in one of the five Grosse Pointes, it's outside what you'll be okay with spending, in my opinion.

First time here so I won't give it five stars yet. We got the pork belly corns dogs, pretzel plate, and beer cheese soup. Pork belly corn dogs were the best item. Interior is nice as German beer hall/ old church. Service was cool. Beers were good too.

First off , when we arrived there was no hostess. No one, inside or outside. So what do we do? It says seat yourself. So we stand and state at people until they get up and then we run to their dirty table. 10 minutes later someone comes to wipe it down. Another 10 minutes goes by and the same guy comes back and tells us that he is our waiter and that they are very busy and to be patient. We order our beer and it comes pretty quickly. Then FORTY FIVE minutes goes by before we finally find the opportunity to stop him and ask to order our dinner. Dinner ordered. About 30 minutes into waiting for our food the waiter took my husbands drink order. An HOUR later our bratwurst dinners came out. MY German potato salad was cold so the waiter took it back and came back to tell me it's supposed to be. NO, it's not. My husbands was warm but that's just because it was served on a hot plate. So you serve the same dish at temperatures based on plate temp. Got it. I never got the second beer I wanted, or water with my food. Overall brats were good. Cherry porter was only ok. Husband liked the Belle isle brown. We love their vanilla java porter. German potato salad was gross cold, but good warm on my husbands plate. Seemed under staffed and THEY NEED A HOSTESS!!

I was considering four stars, but I'll start with three. Maybe the next time I go, I'll be wowed and change my mind. This establishment had been anticipated for at least a solid year by area residents, so when I finally got my chance to check it out with a friend of mine, well, we were very excited. We grabbed a great little two top outside right next to the bar and the bartender was sweet and filled our drink and food order. Beers ordered: Detroit dry cider (excellent) Cherry stout (also excellent) Food ordered: pizza flat bread (not excellent) and the spätzle. My complaints are minor - the spätzle was over cooked (and served way too hot) and too doughy (instead of individual small pieces, there were several large clumps). (This is an incredible dish if done well and I would love to try this again.) Also, the follow up service started to lag once Atwater got busier (It's all about customer service these days...) and though on paper our bill was split in two, looking at my account online shows I was charged the whole amount. As was my friends. So....I'd like to love this place and give it another try, but for now this is all I have to say. (All of the sausage dishes looked great walking by, but how do you mess up sausage?) *as a side note, we had just come from Mimi's Bistro on Jefferson. While not officially open yet, if you're looking for another great German place, don't go there. Four dishes ordered, and four mild failures and unpolished service.

Gave it another shot, and this time walked out before our food arrived. Don't think I've ever done so, but an hour wait for a burger is about my limit.

It did a nice job reminding me of an old timey German Gasthaus. I loved the atmosphere. The place was absolutely packed. We didn't wait long to be seated and the food came to us very swiftly. No small feat. These guys have it together. Here's the problem. In my mind, as a result of dining in Germany and Austria since I was a kid, schnitzel was always veal. I can't think of a time I noticed another meat option for schnitzel on a menu over there. I now realize other meats are used. But, at least, veal was most common. None of the schnitzel here is veal. So i was disappointed. Here's the other issue. All the sausage here is pork. Even the beef sausage is in pork casing. Can someone please start making non-pork German sausages? Weiss-wurst is also supposed to be veal and not pork. But I was delighted to see what Germans call the 'schlemmer-platte' on the menu. It is a plate of pomme-frites (french fries) served with mayo or horseradish sauce and ketchup. No big deal, i know. But it is, at least, something of a German staple. So, due to the seriously porky food options, I had the goulash. And it was good. Yep, I'd go back.

We walked into a very crowded restaurant with no host and a "please seat yourself" sign in the lobby. It was tricky to get a table competing with other patrons looking for a table. After we found a table it took about 10 minutes for a server to greet us and get a beverage order, then it took 15 more minutes to get our drinks (3 beers for goodness sake). We ordered our appetizers, soups and salad. A full hour later our server delivered all of the food at one time, which left no room on the table at all...she should have coursed it out! The beer cheese soup was excellent, deep fried pickles were super greasy, pork belly corndogs were great, pretzel flat bread was so so, housemade sausages were tasty, salads were missing components listed on the menu. We finished our meal with Chocolate stout cake...the frosting was tasty and the cake was dry as heck...it looked very pretty, but was so disappointing. The beer was great and with 40 taps, there is something for everyone. The decor and fact that they turned a church into a brewery is a cool concept. We also loved the German theme and energy of the restaurant. I think they have some kinks to work out, and please get a host to get a handle on seating and flow to keep your servers, bartenders and line from being overwhelmed and your guests from being confused. I'm very surprised at this Meh experience considering the very qualified team managing this place.

Just opened about a week ago. Great selection of beer (vanilla Java Porter my favorite), waitress was excellent, food (German fare) was really good and everything was reasonably priced. Bratwurst was tasty and not greasy. Pork belly corn dog I've could've done without but the red cabbage that came with it was excellent. Chicken schnitzel was really good. Looking forward to going back.

The absolute worst. Ordered the fried pickles (greasy beer batter and cold),. The pretzels did not even resemble pretzels. Cold potato pancakes and the rest of the meal lacked and was all old. The place was packed. Can't understand it

This would be 2.5 if there were such a thing for the beer alone...double chocolate stout, blueberry cobbler and cider were all phenomenal. I do like the atmosphere and location but if it were not 2 blocks from home I would not go out of my way to come here. I am not writing this review to warn anyone against coming here on the contrary...I really hope whoever is running this place reads their reviews and keeps working on it. We ordered the pretzel basket because it had gotten other good reviews and it was terrible...The pretzels were dry on the inside kinda damp on the outside and looked like they'd been reheated in a microwave in some paper towel. Both dips could have been better as well (c'mon guys children's sporting events produce good pretzels how can you mess this up? !) We were afraid to spend much $ trying other menu items so I ordered a Weiss wurst and a knockwurst. Both were ok but what they are serving is not Weiss wurst and you do not serve german sausage with some kind of honey mustard. A jar of dijon would have been better. It appears to me that someone some where cares enough to try with the food but it is falling way way short. Fire the kitchen and waitstaff or they will ruin you. Sorry to be harsh but it's all true. I am a German girl if you want some one to one advice and recipes please message me I'd be happy to consult with you. Good luck!

Great beer, awesome atmosphere. Prices are above average and food is mostly good., but I wouldnt go here fpr it. No liquor which is disappointing, but again beer is great and they have a ton of various Atwater brews. Lacks the charm of the downtown brewery, but has a great atmosphere nonetheless. Nothing like it in the Park, especially when its warm and patio is open.

Couldn't wait to show off the new brewery/eatery to my Royal Oak friends...and certainly was not disappointed. The place was crazy busy and yet still comfortable and the service was outstanding considering the crowds. Can't wait to go back on a weekday so I can better sample the menu. We were able to try the pretzels with cheese and a few sausages. Pretzels were great...sausage a little overdone...but I'm cutting them some slack because of the crowds. Oh, and of course, the beer was the star.

only saying two stars because I enjoyed the atmosphere. the beer is good, but it is a brewery! as for the food- no thanks. not to be rude, but for a place just opening- you'd think they would try a bit harder! the pizza dough was a step below little Caesars and the pretzel app. was tasteless..not to mention the cheese dipping sauce was just their beer cheese soup! the girls behind the bar were drinking on the job and luckily our bartender was cool because it seemed like the staff was more concerned about their personal issues than helping the customers. brutally honest...:/

Had a great waitress named Whitney, super attentive and helpful. She knew the menu front to back and the beer was amazing! Can't say enough good things about the service, check it out!

Fantastic concept, building, and overall atmosphere. And that's where it ends. While I admit that several beers I sampled were good, overall I felt there was inconsistency in quality. My major concerns are the food and the seating. I was warned in advance that the food was sub par, but I find that I'm generally more forgiving than most people. Needless to say, I should have heeded the warning. My entree (chicken schnitzel) was seriously bland. I went with a friend who is German and she found her entree (the German Platter: a collection of sausages) lackluster as well. The seating issue is more of a personal thing, and I can understand how others might not find it a deal breaker. Seating is really not well defined, with a "seat yourself", "first come first served", yet "we'll kind of help you out" procedure. I personally prefer the traditional "we will seat you" method. I won't go back for the food, but might accompany someone else for beer. But that person would have to be someone special.

Do not come here for food, it's very average. Do not come here for service, it is average. Do not come here for bitter beer it's slightly above average. But do come here for the best beer and best beer selection. Beer list is long and most beers are the excellent representation of their type. Would definitely come back for the beer.

Wow what a place! My nephew and I tried Atwater today for lunch, it was exceptional. The building is stunning, service was excellent and food was great. Our server was Leah, and she was very attentive, and friendly. All of the food was superb except the German potato salad, not much taste and served cold. My nephew tried a couple of beers and enjoyed both, and I was pleased to be able to order wine as I am not a beer drinker. Looking forward to my next visit.

It's early yet, but there is room for concern. First visit was highly anticipated. My wife has been watching the Facebook posts for months, and we have been eagerly waiting to try this new bier garten! First beer was cherry wheat. Not so good. No cherry flavor at all. Very reminiscent of bronze dishwater. Second beer. Gp ipa. Excellent. Very unfiltered, very fresh. Perfectly hopped, and very creamy smooth. Ipa should not be creamy smooth, but his combination of creamy and hoppy worked to a t! Wife is not a beer drinker, so she opted for a sweet red wine. Served at room temp, and a very shallow pour. Shocked to see $8 on the tab for warm off brand wine. Oh well...dinner. Appetizer, deep fried pickle chips. Yuk! 5 pieces of dill pickle sliced 3/16 thin and deep fried in the greaseiest batter I be ever eaten. I was going to have he fish and chips, but when I saw this batter, I thought better of it. Good thing too, because when we went inside after we ate at the bar to see the church, we saw several people with the fish and chips on their plate, and guess what! Everyone had peeled the batter off their fish and left it on the plate! I opted for he winer schnitzel with spaetzel and sweet and sour cabbage, the bride opted for roasted veggie salad. THe schnitzel was so dry, it would have made good soles for my worn out topsiders. I don't know what the spaetzel was made of. Didn't taste like potato or pasta. Cabbage was ok. Wife's salad was supposed to be roasted. Not even close. The carrots had seen an oven, but the rest was just salad. I would go back for the IPA, but the food...no. Until management looks at what is going out of their kitchen, and maybe samples it, his establishment will have trouble. They will find that first time people will not come back. If he food continues as it is, they will have a bar crowd only of guys who love good beer and can walk home. There were several of these at he bar already when we were there!
